Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe environment at all times for patients and staff
- Takes responsibility for all swab, needle and instrument counts and assist surgeon accordingly
- Excellent knowledge of Aseptic and sterile technique
- Adheres to policy and procedure on \"Surgical Site Marking
- Implements policy on \"Time-Out\" in all procedures
- Knowledgeable with different kinds of Anaesthesia and their effects
- Be able to work as scrub, Circulating, Recovery Room and DCU nurse
- Maintains sterile technique during operative procedures. Is able to prepare and check theatre for all cases including emergencies
- Assists in checking and maintaining off surgical equipment and instruments
- Records information as required relating to the patient, the procedure and instruments for legal purposes, audit checks and safety purposes. Informs Head Nurse/Charge Nurses of any changes in which effects the standard of care
- Performs procedures accurately, completely and safely according to hospital policies and procedures
- Maintains safety and well-being of patients and staff in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
- Ensures that infection control practices are adhered to in accordance with approved infection control policy
- Documents and reports all accidents/incidents to Head Nurse/Charge Nurse and site manager
- Ensures that all nursing documentation is completed accurately and legibly and understands the importance and relevance of their confidential nature
- Maintains a safe and clean environment for the patient, including fire and safety, disaster management and infection control
- Assists in data collection for monitoring and statistical purposes
- Participates in mentoring and Precepting new staff and student
- Takes responsibility for own professional development and growth and remains updated in current professional practices
- Maintains confidentiality of patients’ illness and care
- Participates in Nursing Committees
- Demonstrates high standards of clinical knowledge and practices
- Contributes to Continuous Quality Improvement by identifying nursing problems in the Operating Room
- Assists with the resolution of problems on a shift to shift basis with appropriate documentation and follow-up reports to Head Nurse
